2011 Tangent Edna Valley Albarino ~$18 btl.
From the man who has brought you the award winning Baileyana Chardonnay, and Pinot, and the Zocker Gruner Veltliner, wine maker Christian Roguenant has made this fantastic Albarino from the Paragon Vineyard in the Edna Valley. This wine is true to its Spanish roots showing opulent peachy stone fruit while maintaining brisk acidity and minerality.
2008 Donati Family Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands ~$16 btl.
Not the usual California chardonnay. This is a very tight and racy wine- A little lime zest and a lot of stoney minerals. Some toasty oak notes, but mostly a clean wine. You won’t find the buttery, fruity character you might expect from this wine.
2006 Badge Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir ~$24 btl.
From wine makers Bruno D’Alfonso and Kris Curran (who was the founding wine maker at Sea Smoke) , this rich, aromatic pinot opens with baking spice and plum. The mid palate has some unctuous boysenberry syrup, and black cherry, and has a nice, soft finish.
2006 Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley ~$15 btl.
A no nonsense Cabernet. Nice, lush Napa fruit- blackberry, black cherry- but with a surprising earthiness and structure. Very aristotelian: a good beginning, middle and end.
